We who participate in World War II living history events have a serious responsibility to, as accurately as possible, represent the men and women who sacrificed bodies, minds and spirits for the freedom of the entire world. While there are many rewarding reasons to reenact; first and foremost our mission is to remember and honor all members of the the United States armed forces throughout World War II. Specifically with 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team Living History, we have taken on the mission to represent a small but unique group of fighting men. The 517th, with it's independent status throughout most of it's short activation, and it's short deployment by the U.S. Army during the war, will never be as famous as other larger fighting elements, with honored past actions, and continued deployments. The 517th combat team's Mediterranean theater service is under-represented and virtually unknown. Unfortunately it has been eclipsed by other theaters of the war in all aspects of popular media. We take very seriously the responsibility we have taken on.
